How it works
An appeal takes a few minutes to start and $75 to file. Here is exactly what happens.
1. We find your parcel
You type your street address and choose it from the list. We look the parcel up in the Cook County Assessor's own records to get your property index number and township — the two things an appeal cannot be filed without.
2. You answer a few questions
Whether the property qualifies, which tax years you want to appeal, how the property is used, when you bought it and for how much, and whether you want an assessor to inspect it.
3. You review everything and pay
One page shows every answer before anything is filed. The fee is $75, taken through PayPal — by card if you prefer. If a coupon covers the fee, nothing is charged at all.
4. We prepare and file the appeal
Your answers are written onto the Assessor's current residential appeal form, signed in your name, and submitted. We file on the grounds of lack of uniformity and overvaluation, which is what nearly every residential appeal argues.
5. The Assessor decides
The Assessor reviews appeals after each township's filing window closes, and writes to you directly with the result. That normally takes several weeks. Nobody — us included — can promise a reduction.
